A Welcoming Student Social

Meet Your People in North Oshawa

Starting a new school year can feel exciting, awkward and overwhelming at the same time.

Welcome to North Oshawa Night is a student social created to make meeting people feel easier. You will have simple ways to introduce yourself, find people with shared interests and join activities without being placed under pressure.

There is no need to arrive with a group. In fact, the experience is designed for students who want to meet people outside their existing classes, programs and social circles.

Whether you are new to Oshawa, entering your first year or returning for another semester, you are welcome.

Coming on your own? That is completely welcome. The activities are designed to help conversations begin naturally.

The Meet Your People Connection Kit

Starting a Conversation Should Not Be the Hardest Part

Every guest can build a personal Connection Kit at check-in. It is designed to answer three simple questions at a glance:

01 Are you open to a conversation?
02 Who are you?
03 What might we have in common?

There is no matching algorithm, dating component or pressure to share personal information. You choose what to wear, what to write and how much you want to participate.

01 Social Preference

Choose Your Social-Vibe Wristband

Your wristband helps other guests understand the easiest way to approach you. Each wristband includes words as well as colour, so nobody has to memorize the system.

Green — Come Say Hi

You are ready to introduce yourself, join a conversation and meet new people.

Yellow — Start With an Activity

You are open to meeting people, but a board game, contest or conversation prompt is the easiest place to begin.

Purple — Open to Connect

You arrived with someone or already know a few people, but you are still happy to meet other students.

Wristbands are optional and can be changed during the night.
02 Simple Introduction

Create Your Name Tag

Your name tag gives other students an easy opening line before the conversation begins. Add only the details you are comfortable sharing.

First name
Durham College, Ontario Tech or another school
Year of study
Program

You can leave any section blank. No phone number, social-media handle or personal contact information is required.

03 Shared Interests

Pick Up to Three Interest Stickers

Interest stickers help people find an immediate point of connection. Place up to three on your name tag.

Your stickers make common interests easier to notice.

Ask at any time

You can request an introduction whenever you need one.

05
What the Connection Kit changes

See a friendly invitation before you have to say hello.

Instead of wondering who is open to chatting or how to begin, you can see a friendly invitation, a name and at least one shared interest before you start the conversation.
